Eloise likes to skate. Eloise is a girl and she likes skateboarding, like for real, she knows a lot about skateboarding, she makes skate art and she even skates herself. Eloise makes vivid illustrations with figures doing a bunch of skate tricks. She did a deck for Vans’ 50th anniversary and she has collaborated with Tom Quigley, Skateistan, Avenue…

Eloise’s thing is to make broken decks useful again. In September, she had a solo show called Leftovers. “I chose the medium of old decks because I love giving objects a new lease of life by making them into illustrative pieces,” she explains. “Whilst also doing it as a collaboration between me and the previous owner of the board.

Each one is different and has its own story, which is a theme I love in all contexts.” Since her London show last year Eloise then exhibited in Berlin in January together with Tracy Gray. Anyways Elise paints, skates and likes dogs.

Please explain yourself…
I am an artist based in London, who grew up in Oxford. My name is Eloise Dörr: half French, half German. I draw little silhouette skateboarding characters in sometimes brightly coloured environments, and other times more dark and dingy settings.

What did you eat for breakfast?
I had a bowl of granola and some mango. Was pretty good!

Do you make money with your profession, or you have to do something else to support yourself and do all that you do and what we know you about on ‘the side’?
I do make money with my profession and I don’t have a job on the side at the moment, but I prefer not talking about my finances to the public haha.

What did you want to be growing up?
I changed my mind a lot when I was younger on what I wanted to be when I was older. I think I never really knew what I wanted to do until I left school and started doing it.

What do you think you will be doing in your 80’s?
Hopefully still drawing, probably not still skating, playing piano, hopefully I’ll have a few dogs. Sounds about right.

Your favorite city?
Paris, or San Francisco. But I haven’t travelled that much, I hope I’ll find a new city to love this year!

Your favorite word?
Soporific. I learnt it a few weeks ago and use it all the time now.

The most obnoxious celebrity?
I don’t pay a lot of attention to obnoxious celebrities so I wouldn’t know how to answer this question haha.

What do you secretly fantasize about?
Being a famous singer. That’s not a joke I think about it everyday but I can’t sing well enough to ever do this, but it’s a secret fantasy of mine.

Your hero?
Debbie Harry for ever and always.

Silk or leather?
I don’t really like either but I hate leather with a passion so I’ll say silk.

Do you believe in love?
Of course. My dog and I love each other very much.

Do you care about politics?
Absolutely, it’s the most important thing that someone can care about.

Current mood?
Feeling pretty motivated about to do some painting in the studio. But pretty tired.

What eye color do you find sexiest?
Maybe green probably but I don’t mind really.

Your favorite adult as a child?
My mum. And dad, to make it fair.

Most embarrassing moment from your school years?
One time I peed myself on the floor while the whole class was in there. The stain was on the floor for a good 8 years after that and everyone knew it was my pee. That was pretty embarrassing.

Pirates or ninjas? Why?
Pirates, I think because pirates were a bigger part of my childhood that ninjas. More nostalgia there. Never played ninjas but definitely played pirates.

If you could have any pet in the world, illegal or not, what would you get?
Very simply, a dog. Or 10. I love dogs more than anything. I want loads of dogs.

What was your favorite cartoon growing up?
Aaah there were so many. Recess, rugrats, mona the vampire. Favourite of all time is definitely Simpsons though.
